Portfolio Night

Role // Art Direction / Design

Portfolio Night is an event held simultaneously around the world one night a year to help young creatives showcase their talent to industry veterans. This year’s goal was twofold: get agencies to host the event in their city; inspire young creatives to raise awareness about PN using their social presence.

We partnered with 12 artists to create a platform that explores what creativity really means, displaying their interpretation of Blood, Sweat and Tears. One that recognized and celebrated the hard work it takes to become a great creative and most importantly, something that allowed creatives from all walks of life to share their experiences and inspire the next generation of creative superstars.

Direct mail to prospective agencies

Proposed: A box would be sent to prospective agencies posing a question. When opened, they'd see 3 test tubes filled with unknown liquid, along with a folded piece of paper. The CTA would invite them to pour the contents of each tube onto the paper to reveal the answer.

Each tube revealed one word, which would appear when the liquid interacted with the hydrochromic ink on the paper. After dispensing all 3 tubes, the answer to the question would be seen.

Tumblr

We showcased the countless hours and ambitious drive that go into crafting the best creative work by asking 12 artists from the ADC community to give their interpretation of "Blood, Sweat and Tears”. A Tumblr page was created to showcase their designs and support the campaign, and the art was leveraged in emails sent to budding creatives and agencies.

Artists' works in progress.

We built a data visualization map indicating which agencies had signed up as hosts, and which were still wanted. Those cities without hosts would display the number of tweets generated by young creatives to let the agencies there know how much Portfolio Night was needed there.

Data Visualization at the event

Proposed: A projection would display incoming geo-tagged tweets from the different cities where PN was being held. Messages would be shown as floating purple color-coded timestamp dots. As the display fills and the dots become more dense, the words ‘Blood, Sweat & Tears’ would be revealed.

As tweets are received, they will randomly be displayed on the projection.

By utilizing second screen technology at the event, attendees can use their phone or other mobile device to interact with the projection.

Attendees will be able interact with the projection in various ways, including filtering tweets by city and tweeting their own message for everyone to see.
